The Side Stitch

So I started my second running clinic last night, the 5K clinic. I was so pumped and excited I could hardly wait to get there. Seriously seeing all the people in the class was amazing and felt like we were about to run a race. Umm... we weren't, but I ran like we were and ended up getting this wicked side cramp half way through our second 10 and 1. I had to stop running. I took it upon myself to enter the advanced group and by the time we got back to the starting point, everyone in advanced and regular had passed me... booo...

This side cramp has plagued me before and in fact, hurts now as I am sitting at a desk. So I did what all people do when faced with a dilemma, I googled it. Turns out I have a runners side stitch.

Thank gawd. I was worried that I was somehow made to not be a runner, after finally finding something I love. And it turns out I just land on the wrong foot while running. Well the Right foot, but evidently landing on it while breathing out contracts the wrong ligament and causes the Side Stitch.

Umm... it also said most people could run through it but ... not me. I have before and ended up not being able to do the stairs at work the next day.

Is is odd that I am slightly happy to have a real runners ailment? It makes me feel like a real runner and for someone whose been trying to be a runner for years now, I feel a little bit like I've finally made it. shhh....
